Landscape as a space for contemporary experimentation
Grunge Postcards – Les Sables d'Olonne is a contemporary landscape photography series dedicated to the landscapes of Les Sables-d'Olonne, deliberately approached against the grain of the smooth and seductive representations usually associated with seaside photography.
Here, the landscape is not a backdrop, but a material, hence the marked silver-based aesthetic of this contemporary photographic series.
The images are created by layering grunge textures and frosted scratches, combined with a photographic rendering reminiscent of old film. These deliberate alterations disrupt the immediate perception, introducing friction, grain, and a sense of imperfection.
This approach aims to defuse the postcard reflex.
The coastline becomes a mental space rather than a tourist destination, a territory traversed by time, wear and tear, and memory. Horizons blur, surfaces are scratched, colors fade intentionally, and the grunge texture lends an unconventional touch to this photograph.
Through this series of experimental photography, the landscape is considered as a medium for visual experimentation, where photography engages in a dialogue with matter, traces, and imperfection.
An attempt to make visible what an overly clean image often tends to erase.
