Picasso's Arena, an icon of postmodern architecture in
Noisy-le-Grand
The Picasso Arenas in Noisy-le-Grand are an icon of French postmodern architecture. With their monumental circular forms and colorful volumes, they embody a utopian vision of the city in the 1980s. This photographic series explores the symbolic power of the place, its multiple perspectives, and the way in which light reveals the poetry of its sculpted concrete.

Noisy-le-Grand — The Picasso Arenas, between art and urbanism
Located in the heart of Noisy-le-Grand, the Picasso Arenas are among the most unique examples of postmodern architecture in France. Designed by architect Manuel Núñez Yanowsky in the 1980s, they are distinguished by their bold geometric shapes, monumental circular volumes, and expressive use of painted concrete.
Through this photographic series, I offer a perspective on the sculptural and symbolic power of this architecture, an emblem of an era when the city sought to reconcile monumentality, imagination, and urban function. The spherical forms of the “Camemberts,” the vibrant colors, and the interplay of light create a dialogue between art and urbanism, between collective space and visual emotion.
The photographic approach here seeks to reveal the poetics of lines and volumes, the tension between the concreteness of the material and the fluidity of forms. Far from being mere documentation, these images question the aesthetic and symbolic value of postmodern heritage in contemporary Greater Paris.
The Picasso Arenas remain an iconic and controversial place, where architectural utopia meets urban reality. This series aims to rediscover its visual power, the balance of masses, and the expressive force of a unique ensemble within the Parisian landscape.
